The
30th Annual Pinal Gila Senior Fair and Bazaar
was a huge success. The Fair, held March 12 at
the Central Arizona College campus, included 100
vendors and exhibitors and over 2,000 attendees.
Olivia Guerrero, the President and CEO of
Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens, emceed
this year's program. Melanie Starns,
newly
appointed as the Governor's Aging Policy Advisor
and Executive Director of the Governor's
Advisory Council on Aging was the guest speaker.
Garciala Figueroa, V P Institutional
Advancement, Central Arizona College; City
Councilman Dick Powell for the City of Casa
Grande; and Tom Smith, Vice Chairman, Board of
Directors, Pinal-Gila Council for Senior
Citizens each spoke as representatives of the
Fair’s sponsors.
A
much anticipated part of the program each year
is the Outstanding Senior Awards. "Outstanding
Senior Citizen of the Year" presentations were

County and Belen Cluff of Winkleman for Gila
County. "Community Service Awards" went to Henry
Colvin of Globe for Gila County and Maybelle
Thoen of Kearny for Pinal County. Wanda Henry of
Apache Junction and Marlene White Miller of Gold
Canyon each received certificates in recognition
of their community volunteer work.
The
Blackwater Seniors were recognized for having
participated in all 30 Senior Fairs. Also
recognized were vendors George McMurrick, 20
years and Diane Pecor and Bobbi McCarthy both
for 15 years participation. The sponsors and
co-chairs for this event were Shelly Hanley,
Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens; Shayla
Butler, the City of Casa Grande; and Barbara
Gibson, Central Arizona College.
The sponsors want to thank Pastor David Landry
and Boy Scout Troop 919 for participating in the
program. A special thank you to CAC’s Jazz Choir
for providing musical entertainment, always a
highlight of the fair and to the Casa Grande
Union High School Marine Corps JROTC cadets for
volunteering their services.
